One Thing

The word disciple means 'follower' and that’s what the Christian life is all about: following Jesus. We run a discipleship year, called One Thing, which helps those aged 18-30 to go deeper in their journey of following Jesus and living for him whole-heartedly.

Why One Thing?

One Thing is about learning how to live out the prayer in Psalm 27: “one thing have I asked of the Lord, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. It’s a year long programme serving Jesus and his church, growing in being His disciple in all aspects of life.

The programme

The programme runs part time, from Sunday-Tuesday. We start in September and finish at the end of July. There is no cost for the year but usually those on the One Thing programme work part time during the rest of the week to cover their living costs.

One Thing is designed to give you a rich experience of church life behind the scenes and give you opportunities to grow and thrive. You would work as part of our staff team within a specific ministry area, helping to run, plan and develop it. Each One Thing participant works alongside a staff mentor who helps develop their unique gifting and go deeper in their own relationship with Jesus. Each week will include teaching time where guests come to speak on a different aspect of following Jesus and help you put it into practice. The week might also involve being part of different staff meetings, serving in midweek ministries and spending time with your mentor.
